Cost depends on the square footage sprayed, the foam type, and the thickness required to reach your target R-value. Open-cell is less expensive per board foot and works well for attics and interior walls; closed-cell costs more but delivers roughly double the R-value per inch along with the water resistance that crawl spaces and metal buildings need here. Moisture. Tyler averages nearly 46 inches of rain a year — the wettest part of Texas — on top of a long, muggy cooling season. West of here, insulation is mostly a heat problem; in the piney woods it's a heat and moisture problem. That's why closed-cell foam (water-resistant, vapor-retarding) plays a bigger role here, especially in crawl spaces and on metal buildings.
Open-cell foam is lighter and vapor-permeable, with an R-value around R-3.6 per inch — a cost-effective air seal for attics and interior walls, and it dampens sound well. Closed-cell foam is denser and rigid, around R-6 to R-7 per inch, resists water, adds structural strength, and acts as a vapor retarder at sufficient thickness — ideal for crawl spaces, metal buildings, and tight cavities. Code targets are roughly R-38 in the attic and R-20 in above-grade walls, though unvented (conditioned) attic assemblies using foam on the roof deck are evaluated differently — we design to your assembly and local code. With closed-cell at about R-6.5 per inch or open-cell at about R-3.6 per inch, we calculate the thickness needed to hit your target.
Yes — it's one of the most valuable jobs in East Texas. Older Tyler homes commonly sit on pier-and-beam foundations over vented crawl spaces, and our rainfall keeps the ground under them damp much of the year. Both. New construction is the easiest time to foam, but we retrofit existing homes constantly — most commonly attics and crawl spaces. In older East Texas homes we often remove damp or damaged insulation first, then seal the envelope properly.
Yes. In our humidity, bare metal sweats with condensation nearly year-round and bakes all summer. Closed-cell foam applied to the metal stops both and stiffens the structure — it's what makes an East Texas metal shop or barndominium livable.
It can, meaningfully. By sealing the gaps that let humid outdoor air infiltrate, foam reduces the moisture load your AC has to remove, which helps the house feel dry and comfortable instead of sticky. In tightly sealed homes we'll also talk through ventilation so the building breathes correctly.
Once properly installed and cured, spray foam is inert and stable. During installation the crew uses proper protective equipment and ventilation, and we advise you on re-occupancy timing. Professional installation by a trained crew is what ensures it's done safely and correctly.
